PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY: This paid internship position is a part of the Spring 2022 Sarasota-Manatee Arts & Humanities (SMAH) Internship Program, funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant and private donors to New College of Florida. Thus, this internship has certain expectations per the funding and program requirements.
 
  1. The CEO-funded internships are for CURRENT New College students and will be expected to be completed for academic credit. The student selected for this internship must find a faculty sponsor and create/add a full-term tutorial (select "internship" as the objective) to their Spring 2022 academic contract.   2. Students selected for CEO-funded internships must review and complete a Student Intern Agreement Form, which details program expectations. Spring 2022 interns will receive an updated electronic fillable agreement form once they have been offered an internship. Please review the attachment as a past example, so that you are aware of the expectations.


Mission:
The mission of Girls Inc. of Sarasota County is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. We do this through focusing on 3 key areas - academic support, healthy living, and life skills. Our primary goals focus on literacy, math and science, career and life planning, health and sexuality, leadership and community action, sports and adventure, self-reliance and life skills, and culture and heritage. These programs are designed to serve all girls regardless of their socio-economic, ethnic, or religious background. Appreciation for diversity and acceptance of others is at the core of the Girls Inc. philosophy.
 
Internship Description:
The Eureka! Program Assistant would support efforts to further develop the Girls Inc. Eureka! Program, a 5 year immersive STEM program that aims to introduce girls to concepts, careers, and mentors that can help them succeed through high school and beyond.

The Program Assistant would:
-Create a schedule for the Eureka! participant internship program
-Create a schedule for summer camps
-Organize materials by week of camp and determine which materials are needed
-Community action curriculum for cohort 3
-Create a personal development curriculum activities for cohort 2
- Provide general support as needed.

-Gain experience in youth program development
-Understand the needs of STEM-based programming for girls and underrepresented demographics
-Gain experience in scheduling
-Further communication skills by coordinating with community partners
-Gain experience in working with a budget to order and organize supplies to be used across groups and programs
 
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position would be interested in gender issues and youth development programs. They must have transportation or access to transportation. The ideal candidate would have strong organizational skills, be comfortable using technology, possess strong communication skills, and have experience in creating or maintaining a schedule. This candidate must be interested in recognizing and closing gender gaps to ensure equity and equal opportunities.
