Spring 2022 Mentoring Program Intern

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY: This paid internship position is a part of the Spring 2022 Sarasota-Manatee Arts & Humanities (SMAH) Internship Program, funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant and private donors to New College of Florida. Thus, this internship has certain expectations per the funding and program requirements.
 
  1. The CEO-funded internships are for CURRENT New College students and will be expected to be completed for academic credit. The student selected for this internship must find a faculty sponsor and create/add a full-term tutorial (select "internship" as the objective) to their Spring 2022 academic contract.   2. Students selected for CEO-funded internships must review and complete a Student Intern Agreement Form, which details program expectations. Spring 2022 interns will receive an updated electronic fillable agreement form once they have been offered an internship. Please review the attachment as a past example, so that you are aware of the expectations.

Internship Description:
The Education Foundation of Sarasota County’s Mentoring program connects students with a trusted mentor who will provide one-on-one guidance and support to plan and prepare for life after high school. A caring mentor will continue to encourage and guide the mentee along their journey through college or specialized training. The Mentoring Intern will support the foundation’s efforts to build relationships with high school students while actively recruiting students for the Mentoring program. The Mentoring Intern will be challenged to identify motivated, college and/or career bound high school juniors who demonstrate the drive to succeed. The Mentoring Intern will assist with planning for training and events that benefit mentors and create opportunities to recruit mentees. The Mentoring Intern will receive guidance and support from the mentoring team which includes a Mentoring Manager and Mentoring Coordinator for the program.
 
Learning Outcomes:
The intern will:
o Learn how non-profit organizations are operated.
o Build relationships and make meaningful connections with others.
o Learn about college, career, and life readiness for K-12 students.
o Learn how to manage multiple tasks.
o Immerse themselves in a public educational setting.
o Explore their own career options within K-12 education and non-profit organizations.
o Gain an understanding of programming within non-profit organizations.
 
Qualifications:
Motivated and driven to identify students who may benefit from the mentoring program.

Hybrid (in person and remote)
