ArtCenter Manatee: Intern - flexible based on student interest (PAID Fall 2021 SMAH Internship)

ArtCenter Manatee:
Fall 2021 SMAH Arts Administration Intern

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY: This paid internship position is a part of the Fall 2021 Sarasota-Manatee Arts & Humanities (SMAH) Internship Program, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant and private donors to New College of Florida. Thus, this internship has certain expectations per the funding and program requirements.

  1. The SMAH internships are for CURRENT New College students and will be expected to be completed for academic credit. The student selected for this internship must find a faculty sponsor and create/add a full-term tutorial (select "internship" as the objective) to their Fall 2021 academic contract.   2. Students selected for SMAH internships must review and complete a Student Intern Agreement Form, which details program expectations. Fall 2021 interns will receive an updated electronic fillable agreement form once they have been offered an internship. Please review the attachment as a past example, so that you are aware of the expectations.

Organization's Mission:
The mission of ArtCenter Manatee is to provide a platform for artists of all ages, experience levels and backgrounds, to exhibit and market original artwork and enhance the visual arts in Manatee County through special events and outreach programs.

Our goal is to make art accessible to all through our classes, exhibits, artisan shop and events.

Potential Internship Projects:
FLEXIBLE BASED ON STUDENT INTEREST!

Marketing
Work to promote exhibits and classes online, especially through social media, and in print. Our exhibits change monthly. Promotion includes banner ads, web pages, programs, posters, email and social media posts.
  • Help us to expand our reach by exploring new audiences and marketing methods
  • Help us to reach and serve an underserved population of Hispanic and African American residents as well as reach out to the LGBTQx community
  • Social Media, Eblasts and website
  • Weekly: Take and edit photos (Adobe Photoshop Elements), shoot and edit videos (Adobe Premier Elements), write copy. Post to web, Facebook, Instagram
  • Promote classes on a weekly basis to Facebook.
 
Exhibits
 Monthly: Our art exhibits change monthly in our three galleries. We receive art work on a Saturday and hang it on a Monday (presentation committee). Exhibits open on a Tuesday. Intern, based on availability, would hang exhibits one time per month on a Monday as part of a presentation team. Learn exhibit presentation, labeling, lighting.
 
We produce an exhibit program, poster, and other materials (Adobe Indesign and Adobe Photoshop Elements) on Monday to be ready for the opening on Tuesday. On Thursday from 5-7, we have an opening reception for artists and the community to come in to view the exhibit. Prior to the exhibit opening, we produce a Call For Artists and a Press Release, web banner, and online entry form.
 
Education
Classes start every week beginning in Sept. Intern will take photos and videos of classes to promote in various media.
 
Learn how classes are conducted and assist the instructor as needed. Tally end of class surveys
 
Events
All our events have a committee to help in planning, setting up and taking down.
 
During the internship period, we will hold four events: Holiday Extravaganza, Spring Pottery Sale, Fine Arts Festival of Manatee County along the Manatee Riverfront, and Snatch It, a fundraiser.
 
Intern will work with events coordinator to help with planning and setting up events.
 
Administrative
Learn about arts administrative processes.

  • Marketing to a diverse audience of art aficionados, both students and experienced artists and expanding that market
  • Communicating with local businesses, artists and students
  • Learning about the workings of a vibrant art center
  • Expand our reach by keeping us up to date on social media. track effectiveness, propose changes as needed
  • Provide marketing that reflects the diversity of our community

Qualifications:
  • Enthusiasm
  • Marketing sense, graphics experience a plus
  • Social media experience
  • Humor
  • Can train in email marketing, designing for exhibits
