Fall 2021 SMAH Marketing/Social Media Intern

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY: This paid internship position is a part of the Fall 2021 Sarasota-Manatee Arts & Humanities (SMAH) Internship Program, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant and private donors to New College of Florida. Thus, this internship has certain expectations per the funding and program requirements.

  1. The SMAH internships are for CURRENT New College students and will be expected to be completed for academic credit. The student selected for this internship must find a faculty sponsor and create/add a full-term tutorial (select "internship" as the objective) to their Fall 2021 academic contract.   2. Students selected for SMAH internships must review and complete a Student Intern Agreement Form, which details program expectations. Fall 2021 interns will receive an updated electronic fillable agreement form once they have been offered an internship. Please review the attachment as a past example, so that you are aware of the expectations.

Organization's Mission:
The Venice Symphony will provide music appreciation that integrates quality musical performances, accomplished musicians and educational opportunities to enrich the experiences of the community.

Internship Description:
This intern will support the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Director of Development in creating, producing and implementing social media campaigns and collateral over several platforms. Our concert season runs from November 2021 through May 2022.
Assignments will include:
1) Creating short video segments for YouTube and social media promoting educational programs, concert season chamber performances and events
2) Creating posts for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
3) Updating The Venice Symphony's Linked-in page
4) Work on website to the extent that the candidate is comfortable doing so 
5) Creating and developing promotional materials/posts for events and concerts
6) Attending Symphony events and concerts and posting when appropriate
7) Taking photos
8) Begin work on utilizing our archives to develop stories for our 50th anniversary in 2024
9) Other work activities that involve skills the intern would like to develop, improve etc.

Learning Outcomes:
  • We anticipate that the intern will learn how to work in a non-profit arts setting with a small and dedicated staff.
  • S/he/they will learn how to take ownership of a project from the beginning to completion.
  • The candidate will also have the opportunity to develop and enhance skills, especially in social media and communication, that they want to work on.

Qualifications:
  • Interested in learning more about symphonic music, music education, and non-profit arts organizations
  • Familiarity with social media and be comfortable taking photos and video and working with the public
  • Experience with Microsoft products, Constant Contact and Canva is a plus, but not required
  • Strong writing skills or a desire to develop their writing skills under the guidance of the Director of Marketing and Communications

Internship Location:
Hybrid (in-person and remote)/Flexible options: 1515 S. Tamiami Trail, Suite 7, Southbridge Park, Venice, FL, easy and free parking, smoke-free and pet-free office, hours open 9:30 am to 5 pm

The intern will have dedicated space in a shared office, all office materials, including a loaned laptop and access to a printer. Access to software including Dropbox, Constant Contact, Network for Good and Canva and software required to do the job will also be provided.
