Fall 2021 SMAH Behavioral Health Intern

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY: This paid internship position is a part of the Fall 2021 Sarasota-Manatee Arts & Humanities (SMAH) Internship Program, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant and private donors to New College of Florida. Thus, this internship has certain expectations per the funding and program requirements.

  1. The SMAH internships are for CURRENT New College students and will be expected to be completed for academic credit. The student selected for this internship must find a faculty sponsor and create/add a full-term tutorial (select "internship" as the objective) to their Fall 2021 academic contract.   2. Students selected for SMAH internships must review and complete a Student Intern Agreement Form, which details program expectations. Fall 2021 interns will receive an updated electronic fillable agreement form once they have been offered an internship. Please review the attachment as a past example, so that you are aware of the expectations.

CenterPlace Health is excited to provide real-world, hands on experience working with our Behavioral Health team on all day-to-day operations and special projects for students pursuing the field of Behavioral Health and Social Services. CenterPlace Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center that serves the underserved population in Sarasota County. Internship Description/Learning Outcomes:
1.) Advocating for children, families and adult patients
2.) Working daily w/ Behavioral Health providers and staff (including medication refills, referral follow ups, billing and clinical communication) 
3.) Patient advocacy (including hands on opportunities working directly w/ patients and advocating for patient’s Behavioral Health as well as medical well-being)
4.) Communicating directly with customers (includes all employees, vendors)
5.) Problem solving barriers of care for patients

In addition, students may also learn about networking w/ area agencies, medical referral processing, managing caseloads, working side by side w/ Behavioral Health and medical providers, motivational interviewing, grant management and patient center team approach.

Internship Location:
In-person: Flexible workplace options may be available and we can work towards accommodating some remote interns depending on the expected projects.
